The entire series of Ekarus engines has undergone performance tests in highland regions in western China up to an altitude of 3900 meters (12700 feet). Despite the severe operating conditions, including reduced oxygen content and air pressure, the engines are capable of satisfactory performance. When compared to sea level, only a slight reduction of the nominal speed of 200 to 300 rpm can be observed. The engines operate smoothly in both steady state and transient operation with different types of fuel.
